IDPP at The Global Platform 2017

IDPP is supporting the Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Reducation Network (DiDRRN) at the upcoming UNISDR Global Platform 2017 in Cancun, Mexico from 22-26 May 2017.  The DiDRRN is a collaborative of practitioners, researchers, academics, and civil society leaders who are informing regional, national, and global policies that promote inclusive and accessible governance regarding the disproportionate affect of disaster risk management on persons with disabilities.  IDPP is supporting the efforts by providing innovative and accessible information communication technologies to collaborate in the planning, attendance, and post-discussion of the DiDRRN efforts at the upcoming conference.  IDPP will host a working session and a side event during the conference regarding inclusive and accessible governance for persons with disabilities. During the conference, IDPP will introduce Double Robotics ("humanoid assistive robots") in addition to web-based conferencing, to enhance remote participation for individuals traditionally excluded from governance processes.  The institute will further analyze the effectiveness of assistive robots for remote participation for persons with disabilities.

IDPP will participate in the Tenth Session of the Conference of  State Parties (COSP-10) to the Convention of Rights for Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) at the UN Headquarters in New York.  The COSP-CRPD will occur Tuesday 13 through Thursday 15 June 2017. This year's theme is "The Second Decade of the CRPD: Inclusion and full participation of persons with disabilities and their representative organizations in the implementation of the Convention". IDPP will provide a group of student rapporteurs to officially take notes during official sessions and forum.  IDPP is tentatively planning to host  two side events during the conference. One session will include the launch of the CRPD iOS mobile app, which is part of toolkit to enable elected officials, practitioners, academia, and civil society leaders to fully realize the CRPD in local, national, and global policies.
